Women’s safety

This is one of the things we don’t talk about out loud as often as we should but we just don’t.

Women’s safety (or anyone’s safety in general).

I’ve had a “she’s birdie” for a few weeks now. It hangs on my keys in case I feel like I’m in an uncomfortable situation, I can pull the pin and an alarm goes off. I wouldn’t say it’s super loud (although I am pretty deaf) but I think it gets the job done.

As many of you know from reading my stories, I basically lost my voice so it sounds like I’m whispering all the time or like I partied too hard and my voice is scratchy.

I’m scared (maybe paranoid is a better word) all the time now that something MAY happen to me and I won’t be able to yell. That no one will notice what’s going on and I’ll be all alone. I’m hoping that this gives me some peace of mind.

While re-watching Greys for the 867th time last night, I just happened to be on the season where Jo helps a woman who was sexually assaulted. Now, while this isn’t quite MY biggest fear, it is a fear of a lot of us out there.

One of the main reasons I bought it was so that if I was with my nieces or my nanny kids; I can’t yell to them to get their attention if I needed it. I couldn’t yell to them if they were running towards a street and a car was coming. I couldn‘t yell if one of us was hurt and needed immediately attention or help.

I explained what it was to all of the kids I’m ever with and the 7 year old boy has assured me that I will never need it with him because he will keep me safe… ❤️

But if you find yourself looking for a little extra comfort or peace of mind, I suggest you get one for yourself, you never know if you or someone around you may need it.
